16. Roofing in open space at the rear of the Swine Slaughter House at Ken- nedy Town $2,900.--The open space in question is the offal yard and it is desirable that it be covered over and protected from the sun.

17. Victoria Gaol-New Printing Shop, new motors, wiring and switches $11,000.-The Printing Department of the Gaol is at present unable to comply with Government requirements. The proposals will overcome this defect and ensure the more efficient working of the Department.

GENERAL WORKS.

18. Roads $60,000.--To provide for areas in course of development. Roads are macadamized, kerbed and channelled, and footpaths laid as new build- ings are erected during the year.

19. Training nullahs $25,000.--To provide for training stream courses on areas under development. In 1928 this vote was unavoidably reduced owing to retrenchment.

20. Sewerage and Storm Water Drains $30,000.-This vote is necessary in order to provide drainage facilities to new schemes and properties under development.

21. Miscellaneous $30,000.-This vote is to provide funds for various unfore- seen small items that are found to be necessary by all Government Depart- ments during the course of the year.

22. Water Works $15,000.—To provide for new water mains, fixing hydrants.

clearing conduits and miscellaneous minor works, reduced owing to retrenchment.

23. Port Works $5,000.-This vote is for preliminary investigations such as taking soundings and borings, and driving operations in connection with new and proposed harbour works.

COMMUNICATIONS.

24. Wong Nei Cheong Development---Site formation and road construction

$2,000. This vote is for the payment of retention money only.

25. Approach road to New Tung Wah Hospital $1,000. This vote is for the

payment of retention money only.

26. Road from Causeway Bay to Quarry Bay (Section 70′ wide) opposite M.Ls. 430 & 431 $30,000.-This vote is for a short section of the above road that it has been found necessary to construct in order that the Building Covenants on certain lots may be complied with, The tramway will be diverted to the new alignment.

27. Tai Hang Development Road construction $75,000.-This vote is for the amount of work that it is anticipated can be undertaken on this road in 1929. On account of private development in the Tai Hang valley it is now necessary to continue the construction of the road.

28. Burker Road Improvements from Stubbs Road to Victoria Hospital $30,000.-This vote is required for cutting away corners widening and improving the present path in order to provide reasonable motor access to the Hospital.

29. Road to Cape D'Aguilar Wireless Station 1st Section $15,000. This vote is required to improve and realign where necessary the present path and to make it suitable for motor cycle and light car traffic to the Wireless Station.

Sub-head 30. Improvement to Garden Road at its junction with Queen's Road East Cor- ner $6,000,-This improvement will be on land, acquired from the War Office, and will admit of a broader improved sweep from Queen's Road at the entrance into Carden Road.

31. Road to Mountain Lodge $57,000. This road will be graded to allow for motor traffic and will provide an approach to Mountain Lodge, the Wire- less Station and houses on private property.

DRAINAGE.

32. Reconstruction of Wong Nei Cheong Nullah Sec. No. 4 in front of Jockey Club Stand $70,000. This vote is required to complete the enlargement of that portion of the nullah running through the Jockey Club premises and the recreation grounds.

MISCELLANEOUS.

33. Wong Nei Cheong Village Development--Houses $3,000.-This vote pro- vides for the payment of retention money as it is hoped to complete the work in 1928.

34. Revolver Range for Police $2,000.—This vote provides for the payment

of retention money. The work is to be completed in 1928.

35. 1.L. 2058 surrendered in connection with the construction of new road from Tai Hang to Bowen Road-reconstructing Servants Quarters $3,500. This vote provides for the reconditioning of the quarters which are on the road alignment

36. Chinese Cemeteries-Laying out new areas $6,000.-This vote is neces- sary for forming additional extensions to the existing cemeteries for burial purposes.

37. Reinstatement of Government retaining walls $20,000.—This vote is for

the reinstatement of Government retaining walls where necessary.

38. Renewing electrical wiring at Government buildings $10,000. This vote is for renewing the old and defective wiring in Government buildings.

39. Laying telephone cable from Wong Nei Cheong Police Station and the Cable Hut in Wong Nei Cheong Road $11,000.-The present 25 pair cable has only 3 spare pairs. This causes a "Bottle neck" in the main cable route (to Cape d'Aguilar W/T Stn.) which it is essential should be re- moved.

40. Trough Closet Queen's College $3,800.-This improvement is very de-

sirable and is to replace the present obsolete arrangements.

41. Laying a telephone cuble between Victoria Gap and a point just beyond Victoria Hospital $4,250.-The existing Government aerial lines to Vic- toria Hospital are usually blown down every typhoon season. The vote is to replace them with underground cable.

42. Two 200 ft. Steel Masts at Peak W/T Station $22,000.--These masts are required in connection with the equipment of the Station at present under construction on the site of the "Eyrie".

43. New Guruge P.W.D. Store, Wood Road $16,000.-This vote is required as it is now necessary to remove the garage from its present temporary site on the Praya East Reclamation to its permanent site in the P.W.D. Store.

44. Transfer of P.W.D. Workshops to Wood Road $70,000. This vote is required as it is necessary to remove the Water Works Electrical and Road workshops from their present temporary sites on the Praya East Reclama- tion to their permanent allocations in the P.W.D. Store in Wood Road.
